I don't think the link worked - I'll try again. Link: www.freewebs.com/steve_c3/tr001/tr014.jpgIt isn't working in preview either. If the link doesn't work later, then just copy and paste, or type that address into your address bar and it will take you to the photo.

Hi Sandra, if I right-click on the space where your avatar should be and select Properties, then that gives the address of the photo that you're trying to use. Now if I take that address and put it into my browser then I should see the photo, direct from Angelfire. That isn't happening.
So that tells us that the problem is at Angelfire, not at the forum. It would be a good idea to login (to Angelfire) and check three things:
1. Is the file still there 2. Is the spelling the same spelling as you are using at the forum 3. Are there any capital letters in the file, and if so then you will need to use those same capitals in the address for your avatar
Off the top of my head, that's all I can think of right now, but I'll give it some more thought.

Hahaha, sorry to laugh but that's funny. I mean the idea that you would go around violating their terms of service.
I'll have a read through it and see what they might have objected to, although I really can't imagine.
SpyMaster and I set up similar accounts a while ago and we've never had a problem. I'll get back to you if I see anything in there.

"Lycos allows one unpaid Angelfire or Tripod membership and one unpaid HTML Gear membership per individual with a legitimate electronic mail address."
Okay so I told you you could put any old nonsense in there but it appears that they require a legitimate e-mail address. I probably gave them one of my 'disposable' e-mail addresses. Disposable but legit, so that will be why my account still works. I wonder if this is the problem.

It doesn't surprise me in the least if Gordon's photo doesn't work as an avatar, because it's hosted at Freewebs and they (mostly) block the image requests.
That's why we ended up setting up Angelfire accounts, just to host the avatar images. Worry about that later though and let's get you set up with a working account first. Is the e-mail address likely to have been the problem?

Alright Sandra, it isn't worth losing sleep over so that sounds like a good idea.
Have a great sleep and we'll get it sorted tomorrow.

Well SpyMaster and I are both still in business so I would say that it probably is worth trying again.
When I say that I put nonsense in the name and address sections, I mean I invent names and addresses and postcodes, but they all follow a conventional format so that they look real. When I invent a postcode I use the same alphanumeric sequencing as a real postcode so that it looks kosher.
Not that anybody sits and reads them at Angelfire, but they probably automatically scan them through bots (software programs) which will look for anomalies and which will validate the e-mail addresses. The e-mail address is the only part which would actually be validated though.
