Hi Lizzy, I hadn't heard anything about it but I had a look at the site which I use for satellite info and the service is already listed. If you get your service via cable then your cable operator will automatically send you the Irish version of Sky News. If on the other hand you receive the channel directly via satellite then you will have the option of whether to watch the UK version or the Irish version, by selecting the service using the digibox menus. It will still be on channel 501 and it will be unencrypted (free).
You will see (below) that the service is already available and you can select the service now although it will probably be carrying standard UK content until the 10th of May, when it launches. Well on second thoughts it probably does differ slightly already - I would expect them to have promotional trailers for the service on the Irish version, given that the launch is fairly imminent.
Those satellite details came from Lyngsat: www.lyngsat.com/
And here are a couple of links with more info on the Irish service:

Typical! It’s a disgrace! It’s near impossible to get English news, BBC and ITV both give us Northern Ireland stuff, sky news is going Irish as well, why cant people get the idea that in Irland if we want Irish news we watch RTE!
Nearly everyone in Ireland has skynews ‘cos the cheapest way to get BBC1,2, ITV and channel 4 is to get a package called chorus and you get skynews with it.
